WEST 5TH CRAFTSMAN BUNGALOW

The owners of this 1926 Craftsman Bungalow were looking to take this dark, compartmentalized space and change it to a light filled, open home perfect for entertaining and living. Sharing their vision with the custom home builders at Kitsilano Construction and Design, this traditional Craftsman home was brought into the 21st century. With a design focused on bringing natural light into the space and preserving the classic elements of the building, we were able to provide a modern update to a traditional theme.

HOMEY HERITAGE

Our extensive reconstruction successfully updated the classical elements of the 1926 build, with a look and feel matching the history and style of the neighborhood. Deliberate placement of new windows, and the careful preservation of the original stained glass flooded this once dark home with new light and life.

New floor plans opened up the living spaces of the home to provide a friendly, inviting space for living and entertaining to fit the needs of today’s discerning homeowner. An eye towards authenticity in detail and elements was a priority in our interior design philosophy. Custom millwork throughout the home with dramatic touches of oil rubbed bronze hardware and hardwood floors paired with the wide baseboards and molding to create a rich, dramatic look with a focus on quality. The modern conveniences of a built-in sound system and dimmer switches paired with traditional character home elements to add quality and ease of usability.

A HOUSE WITH HEART

The centrally located kitchen was designed to be the heart of the home, with high-end appliances to please the most demanding home chef. Custom white cabinetry with an integrated fridge and dishwasher maintained the continuity of the room’s look, while the high end faucet exudes an image of quality and functionality.

The adjacent main living room features a gas fireplace with stone and detailed wood columns complete with mantle for an intimate feel while entertaining. A secondary den was designed as a retreat for reading or watching your favorite shows next to the master bedroom.

Attached to the den is a deck with powder coated steel railings, colour coded to the home’s exterior with a lead into the backyard patio, a peaceful vision of interlocking brick that serves as an exquisite location to enjoy the outdoors.

A semi-independent suite for family members was placed on the lower level, designed to equal the main floors in quality and workmanship featuring custom cabinetry and stone countertops, a cohesive space perfect for retiring parents or young adults seeking privacy who don’t want to stray too far from home.

High quality building materials and practice well beyond industry standard was our primary concern in workmanship and material sourcing. We employed optimized modern technology to re-establish aspects essential to the recreation of the traditional Vancouver Craftsman Bungalow style with a modern update, from the dental details on the front façade to the restoration of the beautiful stained glass windows, our extensive design, research and workmanship went into this gorgeous home renovation.
